Balayage is a free hand technique used do the hair still has a dimension look. This is created by taking sections either small or big, depending on how much blonde the client wants. First you can T part the hair. Then take slices starting at the bottom based on how much color is desired. Smaller sections for more blonde bigger sections for more dimension. Then you use a chip brush to help create a good blur/transition area, and work your way up to the top.
money piece
Money piece is used for a bright look around your hairline by your face. Many people look for this look when getting a balayage. You can achieve this look by sectioning out your hairline by your face. When you go to put the lightener on your direct the hair back and use a chip brush to create a good look. The bleach is mostly brought up to the roots for a really cute look.
Dark root
A dark root is the same thing as a smudge root. This look is created by T- parting the hair. Then you take about 1/4” section. Start at the root and almost act like you’re doing a retouch and add the color to however far down is desired. Start at the front then go to the back at the end. When your are all finished you take a wide tooth comb and run it through the hair to bring down a little bit of the color so there is not such a harsh line.
retouch
Retouch is used when someone had a natural hair regrowth and you need to cover it up to match the hair again. It can be bleach or color. To do a retouch you t part the hair and start at the front sections. You take 1/4”-1/2” sections and then you move to the back. When you are finished you go back and do a cross check in the opposite direction you applied it on.
all over color
All over color is where you apply the color all over the head to be one color. For an all over color you start by t- parting the hair. You start in the front sections and if the hair is health you can apply from roots to ends. If there are pours end you would do all of it but the ends and go throw with the color at the very end so the color will match the top. If you did it all the way and the hair was damaged you would have a lot of fading and it could take the color darker on the ends.
fine weave
For a Fine weave I would do a Mohawk parting. After the Mohawk is all sectioned out I would start at the bottom of the Mohawk and slice out an 1/8”part. Then to be a fine weave you would weave it like an angle hair spaghetti noodle to be really small and fine. Then work all the way up to the top and leave spacers depending on how much blonde is desired. Once you finish the top you can go to the sides and do the same thing or you could also brick lay the sides. A fine weave created a really blended look of highlights that look natural. Tone at the end if desired.
heavy weave
to create a heavy weave I would mohawk part the hair just like the fine weave. Once that is done I would then again start at the bottom of the Mohawk and work my way up with weaving out 1/8” part and weave them to about the size of a fettuccine noodle. After that apply the color and move up leaving up to a 1” spacers depending on the amount of color desired. Once you got all the way to the top I would move to the sides and brick lay the sides rather than doing to 2 little sections. Once that is done process and wash out. Tone if desired.
shadow box
using a shadow box this can create a pop of color to your look. what a shadow box is, is where the hair in your nape area is a different color than the rest. To do a shadow box you would start by sectioning out the hair that you do want to color. It can be any amount of hair the client wants. Next clip up the hair you would not be coloring. Once that is done i would start at the bottom so you don't fold the hair up onto the hair not being done. You would take sections like you're doing an all over color. about 1/4-1/2" sections. When you finish and go to wash it out then just wash out the colored part so you don't dye the other hair.
virgin bleach
Start off by t-parting the hair. Starting in the back first take 1/8” partings. Start half and inch away from the scalp until the porous ends. One the hair is half the desired shade then you go back to the roots and ends and apply the bleach in the 1/8” partings still. When processing time is over wash out the hair and tone if desired.
pin wheel technique
Part down from the top vertically down in a pinwheel pattern. Use the color techniques depending on if you’re doing bleach or color. This will give a look of slices/ chunky highlights. Once the hair lays down this will create a good transition from color to color.
